Know the corridor.
Make the call.
Rules, liquidity and cost intelligence for treasury teams and payment operators moving money into and out of frontier markets, such as Ethiopia, Angola, Malawi and the CEMAC member states.
Fewer banks. Higher costs.
Money that waits.
In frontier markets, each problem feeds the next.
Active correspondent banks worldwide, 2011–2019 · BIS
Global banks have stepped back from smaller markets. Fewer relationships remain, and the bank that stays sets the price.
Average cost of sending money to sub-Saharan Africa · World Bank, Q3 2025
With few routes and no public benchmark, the gap between a good and a bad route shows only after the money has moved.
Backlog of FX orders in Angola · BFA, Q3 2026
Where foreign currency is scarce, balances sit in bank queues and approval steps while costs build.
Amendments to Ethiopia's FX directive in the first half of 2026 · NBE
Rules change often, and one missing document can hold a payment for weeks.
That is why, in frontier markets, the route you choose and the rules you follow are commercial decisions, not operational details.
Ethiopia. Since February 2026, banks rather than the central bank approve dividends and external loans. The wait now depends on your bank's FX supply.
CEMAC. Extractive companies must repatriate 35% of FX earnings now, rising to 50% in 2027 and 70% in 2028.
Angola. Company FX orders routinely wait 45 to 60 days, and some more than three months (Expansão).

An NDA is available on request. Members can log in to the full Index and Playbooks.
A rulebook for each market, kept current.
Rules & Compliance is a subscription to the FX rules that govern money in and out of each focus market, sourced to the central bank text, with alerts when they change and checks that stop a payment being held for a missing document. When payments are held or returned, we trace the cause to the rule or document behind it.
Banks can now approve deferred-payment LCs without the National Bank.
Source: NBE Directive FXD/05/2026. Applies to firms holding FX or retention accounts.
For you: your two pending machinery imports qualify. Ask your bank to restructure them as deferred-payment LCs.
- Rules by market and direction: approvals, thresholds, deadlines and documents, each with its source
- Change alerts when a central bank issues a new directive or circular
- Readiness checks before an FX application or transfer, so it is not held for a missing document
- Exceptions: why payments were held or returned, and the rule or document fix that prevents a repeat
- Payment operators and fintechs licensed or paying out in our markets
- Finance teams paying suppliers or receiving dividends from these markets
- Nothing to start: rules and alerts need no client data
- For exception analysis: your held or returned payment reports

A map of where your money waits, and what it costs.
Liquidity Mapping is a review, then a monitoring service. We build your exposure map from your own documents: every balance waiting to leave a market, how long it has waited, what the wait costs, and which part was avoidable. Then we compare lawful routes against waiting and track each balance until it lands.
- Exposure map: how much is waiting, where, and for how long
- Cost of the wait: carrying, currency, commercial and workaround costs
- Avoidable vs structural: which part of the wait could have been prevented
- Lawful routes compared against waiting, including the pricing your own bank offers
- Tracking each balance until it is converted and paid out
- Corporates with balances waiting to leave a market: supplier payments, dividends, sale proceeds, collections
- Payment operators with prefunding or local collections they cannot convert
- A 20-minute call to start: estimates are shown as ranges
- Documents you already have: bank statements, FX applications, invoices. No system access
- Every figure is labelled estimated or measured
No splitting payments to stay under thresholds, no parallel-market or stablecoin workarounds. When a broker offers a shortcut, we tell you whether it is lawful in that market, what it really costs, and whether it beats waiting.

What each corridor really costs you.
Cost & Partner Analytics measures the all-in cost of every payment against the mid-market rate, including the cost of money parked in prefunding, and scores each bank or payout partner on cost, speed and success rate. It starts as a one-off diagnostic and continues as a quarterly scorecard.
| Partner | All-in cost | Median time | Success | Prefunding idle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Partner A | 2.1% | 4 h | 99.1% | 9 days |
| Partner B | 3.4% | 1 day | 97.6% | 21 days |
| Partner C | 1.8% | 3 days | 93.2% | 6 days |
Finding: Partner C is cheapest on paper, but failed payouts and slow delivery make Partner A cheaper to run.
- All-in landed cost per payment: FX margin, fees and deductions against the mid-market rate
- Cost to serve a corridor, including the idle cost of prefunding
- Partner scorecards on cost, speed and success rate, by corridor
- Partner-caused failures: where payments break down with one partner and not another
- Payment operators with two or more payout partners per corridor
- Finance teams paying in markets where access is not the problem
- A few months of partner rates and outcomes, or 10 to 20 recent payments
- No system access needed; an NDA is available

Routes & Delivery
For each supplier payment, the routes available compared on delivered cost, timing and certainty, with support until the money lands.
Available today: the lawful route menu for each market (Corridor Intelligence membership) and Market & Corridor Entry for choosing routes and partners.
The right route for each payment, until it lands.
Routes & Delivery compares the routes available for each supplier payment on delivered amount, timing and certainty, recommends one, checks the paperwork before you pay, and confirms delivery. A monthly report shows what every route actually cost. For corporates only.
| Route | Supplier receives | Arrives | Paperwork |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · Bank, via USD | About CNY 994,000 | 8–15 days | Ready |
| B · Bank, EUR to CNY | CNY 1,000,000 exact | 5–7 days | Ready |
| C · Licensed partner | CNY 1,000,000 exact | 2–3 days | 1 document missing |
Recommended: Route B. Exact amount before the due date, no FX leg through USD. Route C becomes best once the missing document is added.
- Recommendation: routes compared on cost, timing and certainty, with the reason for the pick
- Pre-payment readiness: documents and rules checked before you pay
- Delivery confirmation: each payment followed until the supplier confirms receipt
- Landed-cost reporting: what each route actually cost, every month
- Execution through licensed partners (pilot): the partner holds and pays out the funds, never Corrivia
- Corporates paying suppliers in or from frontier markets
- Finance teams that need the exact invoice amount to arrive on time
- Upcoming payments: amount, currency, destination, due date
- Your current bank or provider and its quoted terms
Once partner agreements are in place, clients will be able to pay through Corrivia's licensed partners. The partner holds and pays out the funds, never Corrivia.

Demand is strong, but FX liquidity sets the pace. Viable for operators with a bank partner that has steady FX inflows.
Equal weights. Scores are Corrivia's analyst view and consistent with Index Issue 1 (Ethiopia, from AED: 5.2).
| Dimension | Score | What drives it | Trend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Market demand | 7.4 | UAE to Ethiopia remittance channels are expanding, e.g. Botim with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Sep 2025) | ↑ |
| FX liquidity & cost | 3.6 | Bank FX supply varies widely; importers report LC cash deposits of 150–200% (Addis Fortune, Aug 2025) | → |
| Settlement infrastructure | 5.0 | Payouts to banks and wallets; an interbank FX market opened in January 2026 | ↑ |
| Regulatory complexity | 4.6 | Two amendments to the FX directive in 2026; operators must hold an NBE licence | → |
| Competitive density | 5.4 | Many licensed foreign remittance companies on the NBE list compete for payouts | → |
| Viability score | 5.2 | Average of the five dimensions |
